2016 Workshops and Tours

It's been awhile since we posted last... but that's because we've been working hard to bring you our new workshops and tours! We're happy to announce that our package tours to the Canadian Rockies - Jasper & Banff, and Acadia National Park are now open for registration for 2016!

We've also created three 3-hour workshops for beginner photographers only! These workshops will enable those just starting out to learn the very basics in a judgment-free environment.

We thought it might be helpful to give you the highlights of these tours, and why we believe they're worthy of the BlueHour experience.

The Canadian Rockies - Jasper & Banff, August 4-12, 2016

Lake Louise

Lake Louise

The Rockies are a special location for us, and we're sure to make it special for you, too. This tour was made possible by generous donors to our Kickstarter campaign, in which we raised more than our goal. With this generosity, our instructors, Paul and Lauren, were able to spend the month of August scouting out the best spots (and times) to shoot during our 9-day tour. (You can read all about our trials & tribulations here).

We chose the Rockies because of its wild landscape. It is a place of dramatic wilderness and otherworldly beauty. The range is home to some of the world's most beautiful and blue lakes, extensive alpine forests, rivers, gorges, waterfalls, and wildlife. This region boasts some of the best photographic possibilities you could ever hope to find, and we here at BlueHour want to show you how to capture them. And, with the added perks of a package tour, you can explore this amazing landscape comfortably and conveniently.

We're also pleased to say our guide and driver for this trip has completed countless trips into the Rockies and has an extensive wealth of knowledge of the region. We hope that not only will you learn all about photography, but also about the history, nature and customs of the people who live here.

Our itinerary hits both the major sights and ones that are out of the way; A photographer certainly cannot just settle on tourist activities. We will experience locations such as:

Emerald Lake, Moraine Lake, Lake Louise, Takakkaw Falls & Lake Minewanka, The Vermillion Lakes, Icefields Parkway, Bow Lake, Peyto Lake (one of our favorites), Maligne Lake (with a photographer's cruise), Spirit Island, and Athabasca & Sunwapta Falls.

We've even included some activities, such as the Banff Gondola, boat cruises, and the Jasper Tramway. With lodging and most meals included, enjoy the best the Canadian Rockies have to offer IN STYLE!

Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park, Maine
Two Trips: Sep 30 - Oct 2, Oct 14 - Oct 16

Jordan Pond, Acadia National Park

Jordan Pond, Acadia National Park

Since Acadia is our most popular destination, we've decided to run two trips during prime-time: New England's foliage season. We've been offering this trip since our business began, and we're confident this experience is one you'll never forget! And you'll learn a whole lot about photographing New England's coasts, lakes, and forests. Join us on one of two weekends next Fall and experience this gem of the East Coast.

Our itinerary includes locations such as:

Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Somesville Bridge & Cemetery, Schoodic Peninsula,
Otter Cliff, Jordan Pond and Cadillac Mountain.

We'll be staying at the Wonder View Inn and Suites and the Blue Nose Inn, where we've reserved a dinner for the group and you'll even have your own Keurig machines for those early morning shoots. Spend the weekend with us leaf-peeping and enjoying the Maine coast!

And lastly, we're proud to announce a new idea for 2016:

Beginners Bootcamps:
3-Hour Workshops for Beginners Only

Often we are asked about the " skill level" of our workshop experiences. The truth is, there really isn't one. While we do have a "curriculum" on all of our workshops and tours, our goal is to teach you exactly what you wish to learn, regardless of your ability level, with plenty of hands-on supervision. But, we thought it might be helpful to offer beginners-only classes for those who want to start out on the very basics in an environment where they'll feel comfortable. During a 3-hour block on location at picturesque locations such as: Moore State Park, Scituate Light and Nubble Lighthouse on Cape Neddick, BlueHour will teach you all you wanted to know about concepts such as the exposure basics, compositional techniques, camera modes, JPEG vs. RAW, tripod use, and equipment care. Come learn with us!

We're working very hard on some other workshops and tours for the coming year, to locations such as Glacier National Park, and the White Mountains, and we even have a New Zealand tour in the works for early 2017! Subscribe to our newsletter for updates. In the meantime, don't forget to check out our existing workshops, like the Alaska Northern Lights tour (this February!), Savannah, GA & Charleston, SC (March/April), Coastal Oregon & The Columbia River Gorge (May), and of course, the ever-amazing and photographer's paradise: Iceland (April).
