Last September, I joined seven others on a BlueHour tour of southern Iceland, with Paul and Allie. Waterfalls, glaciers, diamond-like icebergs, sunrises, sunsets and, yes, Northern Lights. The promise of yet another spectacular photograph took priority over sleep on some occasions, but we were never disappointed. BlueHour is the best!

AVERAGE CLIMATE

43 - 52° F
Be prepared for wind and rapidly changing conditions.
Experiencing all four seasons in a single day is possible - bring layers.

Physical Difficulty

Standing and walking on a combination of paved surfaces, gravel trails, and sandy beaches. Windy conditions are common throughout Iceland and may make standing and walking more difficult than normal. Hiking is not required, but you may opt to venture further in some areas. You can walk behind the falls at Seljalandsfoss (be careful of wet rocks), and walk to the top of Skogafoss (many stairs). We may allow time for a 1 mile, uphill walk to Svartifoss. This trip also includes a glacier adventure, where we will walk onto the glacier supervised by professionals who will outfit us with appropriate equipment. This trip is rated as easy and accessible to most people.

Sunrise/Sunset

Because this is a photo tour, the priority of this trip will be focused on making the best photographs you can possibly make. This means we’ve structured the itinerary to coincide with the best lighting, i.e., sunrise or sunset shooting. For this tour and time of year, sunrise is around 6:30 AM and sunset is around 8 PM. If we choose to shoot at sunrise, we will be eating breakfast after the shoot.

Cost

$4035 Double per person, or $4820 Single
